What does Shinko mean 2012/10/16 16:05
Hi guys(and gals),

I was wondering whether or not the word "Shinko" mean anything in Japanese.

I know that "Oshinko" is a Japanese pickled raddish or something, but does Shinko mean anything?

I read somewhere that it means "cricket", is that true?

Thanks alot in advance.

How do the word spell in Kanji?

There are many homonyms in Japan,
and some spelling for "Shinko",
such as 信仰(religious faith), 侵攻(invasion), 新興(newly-rising), 進行(advance), 親交(friendship), 振興(furtherance) and so on.
BTW, "oShinko" is お新香.

Maybe "cricket" is 親交(friendship) or 信仰(religious faith) as a joke?

I don't know how it's written in Kanji, I just heard it a while back and was unsure of the context. I believe it was in a tv series about martial arts, a form of Ju Jutsu perhaps.

What does it mean in relation to martial arts, as in Shinko-ryu or something - does it mean anything?

I'm unsure but googled...

They say 真光流(shinkou-ryu) is a Ryukuan (ancient okinawa) Karate.
流(ryu) means school/style.
真光(shinkou) is a proper noun but 真(shin) means "true" and 光(kou) means "light".

And they say 揚心古流(youshinko-ryu) is an old school of Jujutsu.
In this case, 揚心(youshin) is personal name and 古(ko) means "old".
三浦揚心(Miura Yoshin) is a doctor and the founder of this school.
And they were a rival of Kodo-kan school in the early Meiji period.

"Shinko" is a charactor in Kureyon Shin-chan that is very popular Manga/Anime for children.
And her voice actoress is "Kourogi Satomi".
"Kourogi" means "cricket".
Umm...?

Oh, sorry!
Light for 光 is flashlight that emits from something.
Here is 光 in Kanji dictionary.
